In 1991, a dream was born. We, Jan Nysted and Leif Ornestrand, 22 year old backpackers, began to dream about owning and running a hotel. At that age, nothing seems impossible despite the fact, we knew nothing about tourism, nor about the hotel business, nor any idea of the obstacles we would face.
After backpacking for a year in the south of Brazil, we had arrived at its Northeast and found a true gold coast, our own Brazilian Caribbean. After walking eleven days on beautiful beaches with coconut trees and white sand that reminded us of snow, we knew this was the perfect place to realize our dream and began a hotel we called Valhalla (the Vikings heaven).
In 1997 the hotel was renamed Hotel Viking. The Hotel sits on a hill, with a panoramic view of the village of Jacumá, the Atlantic Ocean, and a calm lagoon that lies in front and below. Since our opening in February 2002, we have put great effort in creating a pleasurable atmosphere for our guests.
We learned that there was a lot of work in creating our dream. Now, after 16 years since laying the first concrete, we can look around us and say we have succeeded.
