Language:
As mentioned earlier, the official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but most Brazilians understand Spanish and/or Italian, and a few speak English. However, communication is not difficult. The Brazilians are very spontaneous and gestures very often are understood.

Visas: For the majority of Europeans, visas are not required. On entering the country you will be given three (3) months stay which can be extended for an additional three months at the office of the Federal Police. However, you should verify visa status before traveling.

Vaccinations: Various vaccinations are recommended. Consult your doctor or health service at home to get adequate information.

The dollar and the Euro are easily exchanged in Exchange shops. Electronic tellers (ATMs) to withdraw money with Visa, MasterCard, or American Express are not available in the local village but can be found in João Pessoa (22 kilometers).

The following bank ATMs are available: Bradesco – Visa, HSBC – Visa or MasterCard, 24 Hours – Visa or MasterCard, Banco do Brasil – Visa or MasterCard.

Normally the local ATMs give a better exchange rate than you can get in your own country, but it depends on the bank.

When you arrive at the airport in Brazil, you will find ATMs available to provide you with local currency.
